Strangest Purchase to Date

Say what you will about online shopping - it's my fantasy land.  I have places for everything.  ShoeDazzle for shoes, Delia's for clothes...and for everything else I could possibly need...

There's Amazon.

It's like the MasterCard commercials.  "There are some things money can't buy. For everything else..."  You know the saying.  Amazon is like that.

To honor my love for Amazon, today's giveaway is a $15 Amazon Gift Card.

I discovered Amazon Prime in 2011 while searching for pieces to go with my Halloween costume.  The place I work does an event every year where we are open to the public with Top-To-Bottom decorations for several different sections.  My section was the Enchanted Forest, and I was Robin Hood.

We wanted to go all out, and I wanted to be true to my character.  I searched through Amazon and discovered with Prime (a free trial) I could get free 2 day shipping.  Shortly after signing up, I found a Bow and Arrows set...and my strangest purchase from Amazon to date.

My Robin of Loxley Dagger.

Suffice it to say, it was the crown jewel of my outfit. The hilt even says "Robin of Loxley" and has the fabled coat of arms.  The blade was dull, though it could be sharpened to be dangerous.  It hooked onto my belt and I fell in love with it.  Before I strapped it to my side, I had several people ask me if I was "Katniss Everdeen" because of my Bow.  I showed them my dagger, and there was no longer doubt.

The whole night I FELT like Robin Hood (or Robyn Hood, as I was referenced).  I even had several little boys come running up to have their picture taken with me - "because Robin Hood is cool and so is she!"  They exclaimed.

I love Halloween. I love dressing up. And I love my strange little dagger.  It's a novelty piece that I keep with my always.  Unfortunately, I can't wear it this year when I dress as American Dream for our Marvel Comics Theme.  But I do plan to have a real Captain America shield...so that should suffice.

What about you?  What's the strangest thing you've ever bought online?  Can you even mention it, or is it far to embarassing to ellude to?

Don't worry - here in the Asylum you're safe.  We won't tell.

I once bought a sweatshirt online. Sounds normal, right? Well, this sweatshirt was from... Sweden. So it took about a month to ship to me and cost too many Euros. I ordered the largest size possible and it was still too small, but I vowed to wear it anyways and looked pretty dumb for a while before I ended up losing it a few months later. :D

I agree with those two little boys! Coolest costume ever! My strangest on line purchase...hmmm...I guess that would be Johnny Journey from Peru. A life size mascot of a fluffy dog. Here is a link to a photo.

Weirdest thing I've bought online would either be my fox ear hat or the Beijing Olympics mascot plush (a stylized panda).
I don't have the panda anymore, but I still have the fox hat.

Strangest thing I've bought online? It's a toss up... But, I'm fairly certain that the bright blue wig with hair that stands straight up is the most wacky thing I've purchased to date...

I once bought a Russian hockey jersey. I'm 75% certain it says what they advertised it says... ok 60%... alright, you got me. I have no idea what it says but I still love it!

I love coffee, I know what today is but it all relates. So I decided to purchase, from Ebay, five pounds of white chocolate powered like they have in the coffee shops. Maybe not teh strangest thing ever, but when five pounds of a grainy white substance gets shipped to you things get intersting...

The strangest thing I have bought online would be a tote that looked like a giant cassette tape. I ordered it for a friend of mine that lives in Norway and the store would not ship to him. So I got it for him and mailed it myself, kinda a roundabout way to get something... He gave it to his then girlfriend as a birthday gift.
They are now happily married and I like to think I helped him woo her with this hard to get gift!

The strangest thing I've ever purchased coincidentally just arrived today. My wife told me to hide it so the kids won't have nightmares; I think he's just down right cool. Here's a link if you want a picture: http://theoddluminary.com/store/phil/

Here's the description:
"Phil is the thing that runs past you in the forest at night, so quickly and invisibly that you think you've imagined him. Only seen by moonlight, Phil has pitcher-like ears that can hear trees growing and birds sighing. Caught in a boot by campers, when asked his name, he whispered a word that sounded like "Phil". Made of polymer clay with glass eyes and hand-painted with acrylic paints, Phil is a little bit smaller than an American football and does not react well to water. Dry dust him to clean him and keep him away from pets and children; emotionally impressionable, he might cause damage to everyone involved."

I can't say I've purchased a "strange" thing online. I buy books, clothes, shoes, pens online....Although, I have to say, I'm completely jealous of the dagger (it is super neat).

Can't say it was strange, or that I bought it, but...my son loves Peeps. For his birthday he wanted Peeps and to have a Peeps Birthday party. Trouble was, his birthday is in June. Not a lot of Peeps holidays to go to the store and buy a bunch of Peeps in June. Easter was far past and the 4th of July Red-White-Blue ones weren't out yet. So, I posted a wanted listing on Craigslist. Peeps, any Peeps. We got a response from several people, one sent us something like 6 packages of peeps from Easter. And, Titus had a Peeps Birthday Cake. So, not strange, and not a purchase, but still the strangest request I have made online that panned out.
