The funny thing about life is that it truly is unpublished. As an aspiring, unpublished writer I think of my life as a book--a story unpublished--sometimes worth reading, while other chapters I would rather only skim. Here is a place for other lives unpublished to join me in the adventure of reading day by day--page by page.

Before the Party Ends - Music Giveaway
The thing about music – it’s hard to find someone who hates it. It’s so varied. There are too many genres, artists, and one hit wonders to count. Music is as unique as we are. My favorite is Mumford & Sons (super excited for their new CD release).
Which is why the last day of this Crazy Party is devoted to the giveaway of THREE iTUNES $10 Gift Cards!
You’re excited, right?
I know you are! Everyone loves a gift card devoted to bringing you whatever musical joy you prefer. Now, I’m no music snob (though I do know my fair share), so I won’t hold it against you if you use the gift card for something I don’t like.
That being said, it’s time for a confession…all the best parties have them.
I’m not dedicated enough to be devoted to musical knowledge. I know what I like and I listen to it. If I don’t like it, I turn it off – if I like it, I keep it on. Do I know much about the band or even really know who is singing at all times?
If it isn’t on my iPhone…I probably don’t know who it is by, but I will like it the same. Music snobs have an issue with this (well, the snotty music snobs; they’re rude). They find my lack of focused attention insulting.
I’d like them to tell me detailed facts about the person who wrote the last book they read, or detail me the trivia on the making of the last film they saw. Those details to me would be much more interesting than music trivia.
But alas, to each his or her own.
Now tell me something interesting about YOUR favorite band (or if you’re like me…actor…writer…or movie).
Comment for your chance to win one of the $10 gift cards going HOT to three new homes after 12am PST.
Remember:

Dang - it ate my comment. I worked on that too. Okay, I said if I have to choose it will be Queen just because they've been around longest. The guitarist of Queen, Brian May, is an astrophysicist. They're all intellectuals except for Freddie. I know this because I read the book, "Mercury". Otherwise I'm like you, Kelsey. I only know the names because my iPhone tells me them. I luv Muse, Young the Giant, Black Keys, Neon Trees, Lumineers, Temper Trap, White Stripes, it just goes on and on my friend.
Well, since you asked for it I am going to tell you a little tid bit about my favorite actor/personal hero. His name is, You guessed it, WILL FERRELL. He works a lot with Adam Mckay and Chris Henchy, in fact they created the website funny -or- die. Here's another fun fact, I actually got to meet Adam Mckay and Chris Henchy at a pre screening of a movie (which I can't tell you the title of) but I dunno, I feel like that got me just one step closer to Will. I want to touch his hair some day and give him a hug..... I don't care if I get tazed
So I'll weigh in on a couple if I may. From a musical point of view, I've been a life long fan of U2. Hmmm... interesting facts... let's see: the band is named after the U2 spy plane, namely after Gary Powers was shot down and much of their music has a Gospel centered underpinning, realize it or not.
But I'm like you Kelsey, I'm fascinated with writers and my favorite author is Cormac McCarthy. Interesting thing about him, he's very close to his son, he doesn't get involved in the films when his books are sold for film rights and he has a love of writing that I share whole heartedly with him. Here's a quote about his love of writing:
"My perfect day is sitting in a room with some blank paper. That's heaven. That's gold and anything else is just a waste of time."
Hey Kels!
You & I have talked about this before. I am very similar to you when it comes to music...I don't have a favorite artist, I like lots of songs. My favorite way to listen to music is with playlists on shuffle. I don't like to listen to the same artist, I like mixes of random music from Disney songs, to David Crowder, to Linkin Park, to Glee! :-)
I'm not sure if I have a favorite, so I'll just pick one I like.
VanCanto - a German metal band. But here's the catch, no istraments. The have a drummer and the rest of the sounds are done vocally. I think that's pretty cool.
Also, their songs are like listening to a fantasy story. ^.^
The greatest band in history (this is only my opinion, but I'm right) is Nickel Creek. The three members are Chris Thile, Sara Watkins and her brother Sean Watkins. They formed the band in 1988 at a restaurant called "That Pizza Place" in CA. But none of those are my favorite fun fact about the band. In 1992, Sara, who plays fiddle, violin, sings, and was to be my future wife until she got impatient and married someone else, won the National Yodeling Championship. I can only imagine the echoes she could produce while visiting the Grand Canyon.
My current favorite musician is a guy named Isaac Gill. His lyrics are profound and he's folksy and uses all sorts of creative recording techniques and instruments. He even does a lip trumpet ala Damien Rice :)
One of my favorite bands is Cloudkicker. It is a one-man project that exhibits delightfully complex metal and great alternative stuff too. The best part about him is that he is a great guy outside of his band: I've emailed him on multiple occasions and he's been quick and helpful in all his responses. Plus, he has a 9-to-5 job, so he creates this amazing music for fun. No stress about paying the bills, no worries about fulfilling contracts. You can even download all of his stuff for free if you want--he doesn't care. He just loves sharing his music with everyone. I kind of look up to him as a person who also wants to start my own project, and he gives me a ton of inspiration for my own creativity and music writing. One of the best artists I have ever listened to, hands down.
... my comment didn't post... I might rewrite it in the morning....
Ok, attempt number two.. stupid messing up the log-in... I like and dislike all genres of music. Leaning toward some more than others but I can enjoy almost any type or artist but it really depends on the song. I guess I am just picky about what sounds good to me and that makes buying albums hard. I seldom want all the songs on a CD even when they are from a band I really like (Linkin Park for example). I should start using iTunes more so I can pick and choose by the song... But then I am stuck again in that I don't follow music much so I often forget the artist and title for songs I run across and enjoy... oh well :)
I love a lot of bands from my day, but my favorite would have to be Def Leppard. I love their sound, their story, and Mr. Vivian Campbell one of their lead guitarists :) I like a wide variety of music also. I recently bought "The Regulator" by Clutch, Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" and Billy Joel's greatest hits. None of which are at all alike. So I guess you and I are the same it this area too!
KK
I can't say I have a favorite band. But one of my favorites is a band called Elbow. They are such an incredible band. I love them because of their ability to make simple so beautiful. Two of the most complexly simple (oxymoron?) songs that are some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. They write with such intentionality, and compose and arrange with precision and creativity.
And my winners are....
Rob Holiday, JJ Carroll, and Stephanie Pazicni!!!
Thanks all for playing in the Asylum this last week. I'm going to keep the fun alive by giving away those funny little monkeys for every 5 new followers.
We've reached that this week so my monkey winner is April Hyem :) Not a gift card, but hopefully still fun!
